This prosperous economic and religious hub is home to numerous interesting highlights including the Shwenandaw Monastery, noted for its exquisite woodcarvings. Be humbled by the country’s holiest pilgrimage site, the sacred Mahamuni Pagoda. Here you witness the Mahamuni Buddha image, which is central to the lives of so many of the country’s people. Finally the Shwenandaw Monastery, noted for its exquisite woodcarvings, is also home to the world’s largest book, the Kuthodaw Pagoda. A sight to behold, the Kuthodaw Pagoda boasts a staggering 729 slabs displaying the Buddhist scriptures in their entirety.
