Program details
The new Provincial Archaeology Museum of Alicante (known as the Marq) is no ordinary museum – it is a spectacular and entertaining experience for visitors. Its ethos is that a people’s past greatly influences their development and formation and that it is essential that this past is made known and passed on to all those people who visit the museum.
In a fun and dynamic manner, you will find out about the archaeological methods and techniques, which are explained in three galleries dedicated to field, urban and underwater archaeology. Various dioramas, audiovisual presentations and interactive presentations provide you with a detailed insight into the techniques that archaeologists use to discover the past.
Marq is divided into themed sections that provide an emotive journey through local history. On entering the exhibition area, you’re immediately submerged into the geography of Alicante and are shown the rich and varied nature of its natural and monumental landscapes. The through the past begins at the permanent galleries dedicated to prehistory, the ancient Iberians, the Romans, the Middle Ages and the Modern and Contemporary historical periods.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 2pm and from 6pm to midnight in July and August; and on Sunday and holidays from 11am to 2pm. During the rest of the year, from Tuesday to Saturday it opens between 10am and 7pm, and on Sunday and holidays from 10am to 2pm. Closed on Monday all year round.
