Program details

The driest spot in Mallorca is also one of the most exotic attractions in the island. It is where you will find Botanicactus, which for three decades has been a must-see destination for lovers of flora and the curious alike. Gasp in amazement at the variety of sizes, colours and shapes of cacti species. The range is both bewildering and fascinating.

Everything about Botanicactus is ‘big’. The gardens occupy 50 hectares and boast a 10 hecatre lake. There are lawns, palm trees, bamboo jungles... all in an area, Ses Salines, which was specifically chosen because it has the lowest rainfall in Mallorca and thus replicates as best as possible the arid, harsh and inhospitable environments best suited to cacti.

There are more 400 species of cacti as well as a representative sample of the native Mallorcan flora such as olives, pomegranates, almonds, pine, cypress, orange-scented carob, eucalyptus. Windmills, cabins and pergolas combine to create a feeling of both inclusion and seclusion, of human habitation and of wilderness.

Some cactus specis grow to almost 20 metres in height, others barely a few centimetres. Some are a metre wide, others just a few centimetres. Come along and discover the wild, varied and prickly world of cacti.
