Program details

Bombard your senses with a tour of the three most characteristic markets of Mexico City. Visit the largest market in Latin America, La Merced; the witches market, Sonora and the best culinary experience at San Juan. Absorb all the colours and flavours that Mexico is famous for with the help of your cultural interpreter.

For an authentic experience, we hop between the markets on public transport as your guide takes you around the three most representative markets of Mexico City. Start at La Merced, the largest retail and food market, where market traders have existed since the early colonial period. You’ll mingle with the locals as you wander round stalls selling everything from everyday items to Mexican specialties such as epazote, nopals, dried chili peppers and fried pig skin. Next stop is Sonora market, located in the Colonia Merced Balbuena neighbourhood, which is famous for selling items associated with magic and the occult. You’ll see medicinal plants, aromatic lotions, candles and amulets all on sale … including love potions.

Lastly, we visit one of the most popular markets in the city: San Juan. Here you’ll find gourmet products and exotic ingredients that you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere else. Stroll through stalls and traders offering distinctive dining options and enjoy some of the best ingredients on offer in the city.
