Program details

Barcelona is a fascinating blend of the old and modern and you will discover during this tour. See how history and tradition go hand in hand with emerging trends in fashion, cuisine, architecture and art. This fully guided morning tour will take you from the maze of medieval streets in the Gothic Quarter up to the modern Olympic Port and the magnificent Montjuic Mountain, with its futuristic sports complex built for the 1992 Olympics.

The tour starts near the imposing Gothic Santa Eulalia Cathedral, which is famed for its cloister. Explore the maze of narrow streets around the Plaça Sant Jaume, which are packed with quirky boutiques and trendy bars as well as traditional shops such as drapers and bakeries.

Then it's time to explore modern Barcelona. Your guide will explain how the Olympics re-invigorated the city both socially and economically. Visit the new port area, with its upmarket shops, cinemas and other leisure facilities. Then climb to top of Montjuic, the location of the Olympic Ring, an impressive complex of sports facilities comprising the athletics stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi and the Calatrava Tower.

Continue to Poble Espanyol with its charming collection of replica buildings and plazas from all over Spain. Here you will also find a wide selection of arts and crafts shops selling all sorts of wares – and you will even be able to see the crafts people at work. Then after sampling some cava, climb back to Montjuic by cable car and enjoy stunning views over the city and port on the go.

Duration: Four-and-a-half hours.
