The fun starts in the Gothic Quarter, a maze of narrow streets surrounding Santa Eulalia Cathedral. Continue down to the old port, a recently renovated area, extending the city centre from the Ramblas down to the sea. Continue to Poble Espanyol, a ‘village’ where traditional and landmark buildings from all over Spain have been immaculately recreated in real dimensions. Here you’ll have the opportunity to taste the famous Catalan cava. And what better way to end the visit than with an aerial view of Barcelona from the cable car to Montjuic Castle?
The final leg is Montserrat, which is reached after a drive through rolling countryside and past remote villages. Board the famous rack railway for the climb to the abbey, some 1,200 metres above sea level.
