Program details
The Berlin neighbourhoods tour reveals the richness of multicultural life in two areas of Berlin. Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain were formed into a new borough after the reunification of Berlin. Linked by a single bridge, that served as a border between East and West Berlin, these two areas reflect the diverse histories of Berlin, one from the East and one from the West. Tour the area and discover the East Side Gallery and Avenue Karl-Marx.
With large numbers of immigrant residents, and a background of working class occupants, students and artists, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain celebrate a climate of cultural diversity and tolerance. The area has become a young, vibrant and modern reflection of the new Berlin, with a trendy atmosphere of lively pubs, clubs and nightspots.
The sights of the area include the East Side Gallery, the longest canvas in the world, consisting of 105 pieces of art painted on a remaining section of what was the Berlin Wall. There’s also Avenue Karl-Marx, the main boulevard through Friedrichshain lined with buildings in the Stalinist style, including Frankfurter Tor, two landmark towers that resemble the church domes on Gendarmenmarkt. Experience as well the Turkish market, Landwehr Canal, Mosque Kreuzberg and Oberbaum Bridge.
Open your eyes and your mind to this exciting and fashionable area of Berlin. Pick up on the vibe of old and new as you experience the distinctive character of Berlin’s Neighbourhood.
