Program details

Start this tour with a pick-up from your hotel and begin the tour at the cathedral, the biggest church in town. Right next to it, you'll find the famous D. Luís Bridge from where you can take magnificent photographs of the greatest landmark in Oporto, the Ribeira. Since fabulous churches abound in this city, visit the Church of Santa Clara, built in the mid-15th century and one of the best examples of Baroque in Portugal.

Then enter São Bento train station, considered the 6th most beautiful in the world, with its typical Portuguese blue and white tiles that share some milestones with the history of Portugal. On your way to the river, you'll stop halfway there to visit Palácio da Bolsa and its magnificent Arab Hall and remarkable grand staircase. When leaving, note the Mercado Ferreira Borges, a former market, now serving as a concert hall, bar, and restaurant.

Further down, you will find the Church of St. Francis, the most important Gothic church in the city with gilded carvings. Arriving at Ribeira, the heart of Oporto made of narrow, winding streets where the colored houses contrast with the metallic gray iron of the D.Luís Bridge, you can go for a cruise on the Douro River passing through the six bridges that are important marks of the landscape of the city or simply sit in one of the many cafes and restaurants and have an aperitif before lunch. In the afternoon, go to the other side of the river to one of the many cellars of Port wine for a guided tour with wine tasting.

Afterward, step aboard the cable car right outside the door, and take a trip to the Serra do Pilar before heading back downtown. The Clérigos Tower, one of the major symbols of Oporto, provides a dazzling 360º view after climbing its 240 steps. Across the tower, you'll find the ancient building of Cadeia da Relação which houses the Portuguese Center of Photography with excellent exhibitions throughout the year. Don't miss a visit to Lello Bookshop, one of the most beautiful in the world, with its famous Art Nouveau architecture.
