Program details

Treat yourself to an unforgettable day in Caen with visits to Caen Peace Memorial (unguided) and the D-Day land beaches in Normandy. A must for War History lovers! Tour includes transportation and services of a Guide for the Afternoon D-Day Tour only.

Learn about the history of World War II and the D-Day events with a guided tour of the key D-Day sites, along with admission to the Mémorial de Caen Museum. The tour consists of a self-guided visit of the Mémorial de Caen Museum itself and a guided tour of the D-Day Landing Beaches and key sites (departure 1pm every day). You can spend as much time as you wish discovering the Mémorial de Caen Museum on the same day as your Landing Beaches guided tour or on another day (your ticket is valid for 24 hours after it is issued by the museum).

The Mémorial de Caen is a museum and war memorial which you can explore at your own pace. Here, go on an historical journey through the 20th century, discovering major events from the end of World War I to the fall of the Berlin Wall. The museum features an entire section devoted to D-Day, and is the only museum in Normandy to relate the intensity of the invasion and explain its preparation in both enemy camps.

For the second part of your tour, in the afternoon, you will continue on to the Normandy landing beaches, in the company of a bilingual (English/French) guide from Le Mémorial de Caen. You will travel by air-conditioned minivan to the key American D-Day sites: Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, the American Military and the artificial harbour at Arromanches-Les-Bains (where you will watch the film "Normandy's 100 Days"). At the end of the tour, your guide will drop you back off at the Mémorial de Caen Museum.

This tour includes:

• Pickup at the mainline railway station in Caen upon your train’s arrival.

• Bilingual guided tour of the Second World War area of le Mémorial de Caen museum

• Lunch at the La Terrasse restaurant at le Mémorial de Caen

• Bilingual guided tour, lasting 5.5 hours, of key World War II D-Day landing Beaches and sites in a 7- (or 12-) seater minivan. Departure at 1pm.

• Return to the mainline railway station in Caen is normally at around 6.30pm but please contact the reservations team to check timings for the date of your tour.
