Z - Morondava Savannah and Belo Beach

Description

The little fishing town of Morondava takes about 30 minutes to walk from one end to the other. Set on the west coast of Madagascar, Morondava has been touted as a relaxing vacation spot, the beaches that extend far to the north side of the town, are particularly beautiful. It serves as the capital of one of the largest ethnic groups of the island, the Sakalava of Menabe. One of the highlights of a holiday in Morondava is the incredible Avenue of Baobabs (also known as Baobab Alley) – a series of giant baobab trees that have stood here over 800 years. When they flower, these giants of Madagascar produce a beautiful pale, yellow flower that is quite breathtaking. By the end the day, the orange lights of the  newborn evening where draws itself the shade of the baobabs is an extraordinary show. Just inland from Morondava there are beautiful examples of tropical, dry, deciduous forest with an array of lemurs and bird life. Kirindy Forest, a nature reserve, lies about 60 kilometres from Morondava and easy to do as a day trip. The road is secondary but in good state. Kirindy Mitea makes the transition between the ecosystem of the west and the South. In the west the  dense dry forest spread, typical of the Menabe. It continues by the formation in transition, a lined spiny in Didiereaceae or in Euphorbiaceae and a dense dry forest where  the Lemurs Catta and other specific species of the South live. A brackish water lake welcomes the aquatic birds. Also visit the yard of boutre in Belo sur Mer 100 km South of Morondava. It is the biggest construction site of the boutres in Madagascar, the opportunity to discover a centennial art that makes the generations and the generations of Sakalava live.

Program

DAY 1 : > MORONDAVA
Meet our staff at the arrival in Morondava airport and transfer to the town; the laidback atmosphere of this coastal town is felt all over the city; the local market is well worth a visit (interesting lambaony fabrics). The city centre, near the local market Bazary Be, is a lively compound of narrow streets full of strident merchants and street vendors; Nosy Kely, where your hotel is located, on the seashore, is the actual tourist borough; Morondava has of course its own beaches, where you can enjoy swimming among big waves; after lunch in hotel, take a city tour and an excursion to the village of Betania on a traditional pirogue; in the evening, dinner and overnight in hotel Palissandre Cote Ouest Resort (standard room) or similar.

DAY 2 : MORONDAVA
After breakfast, departure by 4WD car along the “ Baobab Road”, where the red laterite trail crosses the verdant savannah, studded with countless gigantic baobabs; exploration of the region, of the villages of the Sakalava ethnic groups and their characteristic funerary constructions painted in vivid colours; visit to the Kirindy Reserve, to observe various species of lemur and birds in their natural habitat; picnic lunch during the excursion; return at the end of the day, with a stop in the savannah to admire the fantastic ochre-red colours taken on by the baobabs at dusk; in the evening, dinner and overnight at the hotel Palissandre Cote Ouest Resort (standard room) or similar.

DAY 3 : MORONDAVA > BELO
Breakfast at the hotel; departure by motorboat, with landing after around 2 hours at the fantastic Coralline Islands; bathing in the clear waters; brief sail as far as Belo; check-in at hotel Ecolodge du Menabe (standard room) or similar and lunch; in the afternoon, visit to the village of the botry builders; in the evening, dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 4 : BELO > MORONDAVA
Breakfast at the hotel; departure on your private 4WD car through the savannah and the bush for a hald-day trip to Morondava; picnic lunch on the way; arrival in the afternoon and check-in at the hotel Palissandre Cote Ouest Resort (standard room) or similar; rest of the time free; in the evening, dinner and overnight at the hotel.

DAY 5 : MORONDAVA >
Breakfast in hotel; time at your disposal; lunch in hotel; transfer to the airport.
