Il programma nel dettaglio

Head to the bright lights and heady aromas of Bangkok’s Chinatown to take in two of the most spectacular and historic Buddhist temples in the world. Firstly visit the Wat Traimit temple that is home to the world renowned 3 meter tall, solid gold Buddha statue. Admire this spectacular sight that for centuries went unappreciated as it had been disguised in a plaster covering. Then proceed to the oldest temple in Bangkok, Wat Pho, to take in the statue of the reclining Buddha, a remarkable 46 meters in length from head to toe. Learn about the history and cultural significance of these fascinating monuments as your expert guide explains the stories behind their construction and discovery and their importance to Buddhists around the world.

Begin your tour at Wat Traimit and discover the incredible story of how the five and a half ton, solid gold Buddha statue was rediscovered in the 1950s. Fearing the impending Burmese invasion in the 18th century, the statue’s curators covered it in a layer of plaster casting to disguise its true value. Remarkably this casing stayed intact for two hundred years and only when the statue was accidentally dropped whilst being moved to a new location, was its true nature discovered.

Marvel at the long-lost statue before heading to an equally spectacular sight, the statue of the reclining Buddha at Wat Pho temple. Known as the birthplace of the traditional Thai massage, Wat Pho temple is an excellent example of intricate Thai architecture and boasts one of the Buddhist faith’s most significant statues, the reclining Buddha. Admire the beauty and sheer size of this golden deity before heading back to your hotel in Bangkok.
