One of the greatest thrillers of all time comes to life on the stage of the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly with this hilarious production of John Buchan's The 39 Steps. This rip-roaring evening of entertainment will have you on the edge of your seat as the redoubtable hero Richard Hannay makes his way across Britain in an impromptu bid to thwart a plot by foreign spies to get their hands on the country’s military secrets. Prepare for two hours of fast-paced action and cloak-and-dagger fun.
The play has been adapted for the stage from John Buchan’s spellbinding short novel but with a big nod to Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 film. Nothing has been cut from this comic and spectacular version. Famous scenes include the chase on the Flying Scotsman train, the escape on the Forth Bridge, the first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged and the gripping finale at the London Palladium. This blissfully funny show follows the incredible adventures of our handsome hero Richard Hannay, complete with stiff-upper-lip, British gung-ho and pencil moustache as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women.
Watch in awe as a cast of four plays almost 140 roles in this dynamic and witty production uses minimal touches to maximum effect.
