The wonderful Wachau Valley on the banks of the Danube is a Unesco World Heritage Site, famed for its lush verdant landscapes and rustic towns but most of all for the quality of its wines, especially the young whites. Visits to the family-run wineries that dot the valley are almost a rite of passage for Austrians. Breathe in the fresh country air as you cycle along this secret Eden, taking in the sights and sounds of the pristine scenery.
Stop at local wineries and sample a variety of wines as well as other local delicacies, like the valley’s famed apricot jams or chocolates, chutneys and mustard as well as schnapps and liqueurs.
